Time Attack - Driver Interview with Gavin Renshaw
Posted on 03/04/2012Interview - Gavin Renshaw's 2011 season
• How many years have you competed in Time Attack and when was your first year?
2011 was my second year in TA. In 2010 I drove the Lateral Performance Subaru Impreza, usually referred to as the “Banana”
• How did it feel to win the championship?
Very satisfying. It took a while for it to sink in fully, but when it had it felt very good and well worth the effort that the team had put in all season, and especially after the major setback we had at Oulton in the first round.

• What gave you the edge over your competitors to win the championship?
A very good car to start with, but then it was all about the detail. This is where Nick and the guys at NR Autosport really make a difference.
• What car/class are you competing in this year?
Same car – ie the NR Autosport prepared Evo IX - and same class ie Pro Class.
• What changes are you making in 2012 to maintain your championship crown?
Nothing major, but hopefully what we are doing will get the most from the switchover to slicks.
• How did you first get involved with the Time Attack Championship, and how does it compare to other racing series?
Before TA I’d mainly done sprints with the MLR and a few hillclimbs. TA is a natural progression.
• What round/circuit are you most looking forward to in the 2012 season?
My home track and one that I always look forward to is Cadwell Park.

• Which tyres are you looking to use this year and why?
That would be telling!
• Who or which team are you most looking forward to seeing in the 2012 season?
It would be good to go up against the same cars as last year, although a few new cars and faces in the paddock would we nice too. Losing out on top spot at Anglesey to Paul Doyle is something that still hurts, so we’d especially like to see if we can get the better of him at that round this year
• Aside from Time Attack, which is your favourite motorsport? F1.
• What do you want to see more of in Time Attack?
More female competitors perhaps?
• What will give you the edge over competition in the upcoming season?
Boring to say it yet again, but the key ingredient will be attention to detail. The car is good, but not the most powerful, nor the most heavily modified, so if we are to do well we must get the best out what we have. Having previously driven at all of this year’s venues will also help a bit. Oh, and a decent slice of luck wouldn’t go amiss!
