Time Attack Round 2 Preview

PREVIEW: Time Attack Round 2 @ Knockhill Race Circuit, June 10th

There’s just over a week until Time Attack heads up north to Knockhill Circuit for a round which promises to deliver some super-close racing! After the thrills and spills at Cadwell Park there’s no clear leader in any of the classes, with key competitors including Bo Nielsen, Walter Morris, Gavin Renshaw and Olly Clark all suffering technical problems during Round 1 after a seriously hectic winter busy preparing.

The 1.2-mile Knockhill circuit is one of the most-exciting in the calendar, thanks to its huge shift in gradient especially going into turn 1 which is surprisingly easy to get wrong and end up in the gravel. It’s been glorious sunshine for the past week in England, but will Knockhill shine or will we see the good ol’ Scottish ‘four seasons in one day’ approach like 2011? One thing’s for sure, tyre choice is going to be absolutely critical as we witnessed at Oulton Park with not everyone heading out on the semi-slicks or slick tyres due to a cold and partially damp track.

A big congratulation goes out to Gerry Atkinson in the Seat Leon Supercopa who, after finishing 2nd in 2011 and showing serious pace at Cadwell Park has been promoted up into the Pro 2WD class, a huge achievement for both Gerry and ZEST Racecar Engineering who support him race after race. Unfortunately for returning competitors Roger Clark Motorsport the news after Cadwell Park wasn’t so great – due to damage caused during Saturday practice the Gobstopper would be unable to make it up to Knockhill in time which is a serious blow for Olly and the team after having a faultless reliability with this iconic car. We wish them all the luck for Brands Hatch where (fingers crossed) the hugely-anticipated Gobstopper 2 will also be appearing!

So with Knockhill just over a week away, we caught up with several teams to find out just what their plan of action is to conquer the Scottish round of Time Attack.

NR Autosport Evo 9

‘After the disappointment of failing to make it out for the final session at Cadwell we’re hoping for better fortune next time out. As it turns out, our “electrical gremlin” was neither foreseeable nor fixable in the time we had available, but it’s all sorted now. In addition, we’ve made a couple of minor changes under the bonnet and installed the new carbon fibre Corbeau seats resplendent with embroidered NR Autosport logo. Part of the reason for the new seats is that Gav is now wearing a Hans device and the angle of the seat back is specifically designed with this in mind. The seat is also closer fitting to help Gav deal with the higher lateral g forces that result from using slicks.’
